Due to the difficulty of their care, many parrots remain permanently homeless as a result of excessive rehoming. Many of these birds suffer difficulties as a result of inadequate diets, small enclosures, and lack of attention. Rio's Roost works hard to prepare parrots for their final destination, and works equally as hard to pair potential adopters with the perfect life-long family member. Though many rescue birds endure hardships, the majority of them are healthy and fit to be rehabilitated.
Furthermore, there is an overabundance of parrots in captivity, many of which are just as friendly and interactive as baby birds with the added benefit of established personalities, a clear picture of health, and their own unique histories. You do not need to purchase a baby bird to build a connection with your parrot- enough love, time, and patience can bring even the oldest of geezers around.
No matter where they come from, parrots are exceptionally challenging to care for and are always at risk of losing their homes. Very few people are willing to make the constant sacrifices necessary to keep a captive parrot happy, even if they're hand-raised and tame, so if you feel a parrot is right for you, why not give a rescue a second chance?

* Rio's Roost Parrot Rescue understands that each adoption is a personal matter that may vary depending upon the bird you seek to adopt, your location, and any other special circumstances. Because of this, our adoption process is subject to flexibility to best accommodate the time and capabilities of the adopter.
Before considering adopting a bird from Rio's Roost, please review our ground rules by which we operate each and every adoption process. It is imperative you understand these rules before applying for adoption.
We may charge an adoption fee for the birds we adopt out. This fee is based on the costs we have incurred for the bird including food, toys, housing, vet bills, and more. Our prices are individually tailored to the bird in question based on their cost and length of stay, and as a result, we do not have posted adoption fees. Money made from adoption fees is used solely to care for other birds, and is not for making a profit.
Safety and healthy living is our top priority when rehoming a parrot. As a result, we will be very picky about adopting birds out to homes of people who smoke, as the smell of smoke poses a number of hazards to parrots. Smoking refers to the use of cigarettes, cigars, recreational or medical marijuana, incense, essential oils, candles, or any other substance burned which produces a smell. Please be honest and specific about what you smoke and where so that a proper assessment can be made by our application committee about whether or not your home is safe for a parrot.
Shipping is highly stressful for birds and very costly. In addition, in order to complete the adoption process a visit must be made by the adoptee to our facility, so it is preferred you live within a reasonable driving distance. Rio's Roost will not be responsible for covering the cost of plane tickets or gas if traveling long distance is required to visit our facility and bring your bird home. We will not allow a bird to fly by plane unless the adopter has arranged an in-cabin flight where they will accompany the bird through the airport and on the plane at all times.
To ensure the safety and longevity of our birds in their new homes, we require that all adopters be at least 18 years old at the time of adoption. Minors wishing to adopt a parrot from Rio's Roost must have their legal guardian fill out the adoption forms and must have their legal guardian present for any and all visits and correspondence. Any and all adults within the home must be understanding of the requirements for care of a parrot and must be willing to provide said care, or oversee said care by their child.
