There's no better way to educate the community about bird care than to raise awareness to the upcoming generations. Despite their cost and widely marketed rarity, parrots are the third most popular pet in the US and their numbers in captivity are only growing, making it imperative that the newest era of learners understands their needs. Rio's Roost provides one on one, hands on experiences with a number of our ambassador birds, whilst also teaching children about parrot health, nutrition, husbandry, and rescue.
We offer free educational presentations within the Tallahassee area and within 30 miles of Rio's Roost. If you are located further than 30 miles from us in Georgia, Alabama, or Florida please contact us to see if we can work out any special arrangements. Please understand that Rio's Roost is volunteer run, and as a result, we may not be able to present in areas too far from our usual range.
Children will be able to handle, pet, and feed a variety of parrots from Rio's Roost from the comfort of the classroom. All ambassador parrots are tame and trained to accept human touch, deal with loud environments, and tolerate fast or grabby hands.
Our volunteers are experienced in parrot care, and willing to give presentations to children about nutrition, husbandry, wild bird behaviors, rescue work, and more. We would love to share the stories of the birds we've had at Rio's Roost, as well as the lives and behaviors of wild birds flying around outside every day.
Who doesn't love a goodie bag! As part of our great big thank you for inviting us to speak on the work we do, we will provide parrot-themed goodies upon request. We are always so happy to get the younger community enthused about birds through gifts, special interactions, and educational lectures.
